About Geoffrey Chen
Geoffrey Chen (Chinese name: 陈朝辉) is an independent researcher working at the intersection of epistemology, ontology, systems design, and artificial intelligence, with a background in software engineering. He is the creator of Sustenesis and Sustenesis Theory. His broader philosophical writings, essays, and interdisciplinary work are published on his personal website, GeoffreyChen.com.
His work examines how knowledge, truth, meaning, value, consciousness, and intelligent systems can be understood not as isolated possessions of a knowing subject, but as forms of coherence sustained under conditions of constraint, correction, and effective operation.
In Sustenesis Theory, he develops a philosophical framework for understanding existence, knowledge, consciousness, value, and artificial intelligence through the formation and maintenance of coherent structures. The theory extends beyond the traditional subject-centred model of knowledge while preserving its mature forms.
The book Sustenesis presents the philosophical framework in extended form and is held in the collection of the National Library of Australia.
Related projects
After the Subject explores questions concerning knowledge beyond the traditional human knowing subject, particularly in the context of artificial intelligence and distributed forms of cognition. These questions intersect with Sustenesis Theory at the more foundational level of knowledge, coherence, and intelligent systems.
